Eastern South Dakota is pleased to announce that they are catching onto the nation's fastest growing family oriented equestrian sport of Cowboy Mounted Shooting. Spearheaded by the Whitehead Arena Crew, along with the local 7th Calvary expertise, DTMS was formed in January of 2006. The club's mission was to help create more sanctioned events in the area. Thanks to the guidance and advise of the gracious Minnesota Mounted Shooters, DTMS managed not one, but two CMSA sanctioned shoots in 2006. The first one was in July at the Whitehead Arena in Lennox, SD for the National Day of the Cowboy. The Second shoot was at the 5th Annual Spirit of the West Festival in Sioux Falls, SD. Take a look on our calendar page to see what is happening in 2008.

Cowboy mounted shooting is a re-enactment of the old west 1880's. Competitors are required to wear clothing consistent with this period or like in the B movies. A lot of these clothes can be found in thrift stores or on the Internet through vendors. Tack must be of leather material, no nylon or corduroy may be used. All riders must wear boots.
